In Kuhmo, people are used to events being born from the strength of the community. Taruma ry wants to be one of those influencers whose experiences don't remain memories of a single evening: they bring people together, spark new ideas and lay the foundation for the next events.
The association's work is divided into four parallel paths. Events bring people under the same roof and the same sky. Trips carry travellers to the wilderness of Kainuu, riverbanks and cultural sites. Music brings local and visiting sounds to small and large stages. Games gather players at LAN events, tournaments and retro gaming sessions.
Taruma's activities are open to everyone interested in experiences, community and Kuhmo's distinctive culture. We want to create events where locals, visitors, makers and partners can meet naturally — casually, boldly and in good spirit.
We hold the principle that our events must leave a mark. The mark can be, for example, a refreshing community artwork in the streetscape, a traveller who fell in love with Kuhmo, or a new group of friends formed by gathering around shared interests.

Guided Winter War Tour on 22 July 2026, 9:00–15:30. War historian Lassi Piirainen leads visitors to Kuhmo's Winter War sites — departure from the bus station, duration 6.5 hours, price €30.
Kuhmo's Night of the Arts takes place on Friday 4 September 2026. The 2026 theme is "Encounters" — the evening fills the centre with music, art, workshops and community moments.
The traditional Römppäviikot cultural weeks in Kuhmo, starting 3 November 2026. A meeting point for culture and community: concerts, exhibitions, theatre and Kekri (harvest) events in the autumn darkness.
Taruma ry and Naurava Pöytä are partnering on catering for our events. Greek-Kainuu chef Michail-Angelos brings food moments to Taruma parties and adventures that taste of both the Aegean Sea and the Kuhmo wilderness. As a member benefit, the catering service offers special-priced menus to Taruma ry members.
Taruma ry and Retro Game House are starting a partnership around gaming events. The retro gaming museum opening in Kuhmo brings a collection of over 12,000 games and decades of gaming history to Taruma's game nights. Together we're building a new gaming community in Kuhmo where nostalgia and new encounters live side by side.
Taruma ry and Koe Kainuu Adventures are starting a partnership in Kainuu's adventure experiences. Koe Kainuu, led by Kerttu Komulainen, brings local knowledge and guided trails through the wilderness to Taruma's trips. The partnership also supports the protection of old-growth forests, as part of the proceeds go to the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation.
